About CoolWallet S App /

CoolWallet S App is a cold wallet specifically designed for cryptocurrency enthusiasts who require features for making transactions, currency exchanges, and more. This app comes with an intricately crafted card, approximately the size of a credit card, embedded with a unique chip to ensure users operate in a highly secure environment during any cryptocurrency transaction activities. This decentralized crypto product has sold over a million copies worldwide, garnering positive reviews on social media, with the user base continuing to grow rapidly.

Pain Points /

We have received critiques on social media and from end users indicating that the CoolWallet S App is not intuitive enough. Given that cryptocurrency is still an emerging industry, many users attracted to this app lack a background in crypto, making its complexity even more challenging. Users frequently request guidance and explanations for the app’s complex terminologies. As we continue to add more features, we have decided to restructure the app to make it tidier, retaining only the most essential features that users truly need.

App Map  /

Previously, the app was cumbersome. Before a user could successfully create or recover a wallet, they had to navigate through a complex verification process. Once on the homepage, the absence of instructional guidance significantly hindered user engagement, affecting their willingness to continue using the app, let alone performing transactions or currency exchanges. The disorganized app structure stemmed from a lack of a well-organized plan and insufficient understanding of users' real needs for completing crypto transactions. Therefore, we are revisiting the fundamentals to re-engage users and develop a seamless experience.

Online Survey, In-depth Interview, and Social Media /

Since this is an already launched product, my role involves maintaining the current app while designing the next-generation version of CoolWallet S. To ensure users are not adversely affected while still experiencing significant improvements, I designed an online survey for existing users and conducted in-depth interviews with a select group. I also collaborated closely with the marketing and customer service teams, who have been tracking feature usage analytics from the beginning. These diverse resources provide a comprehensive perspective on users' needs.

Comparative Benchmarking /

I choose Ledger Nano X and Trezor as our competitors for they both are the most used gadgets in the crypto industry and both of them only function when connecting to a desktop or mobile phone. Also, I pick two sets of mobile apps without gadgets which also gain huge acclaims in the community.

Persona Creation /

Based on the analysis of data collected from various stakeholders, I identified three primary personas representing different levels of cryptocurrency experience: beginner, intermediate, and expert. These personas will guide our design and development process.

Customer Journey Map /

Using the same data analysis, I created customer journey maps for each of the three personas—beginner, intermediate, and expert—detailing their experiences and interactions with the app.

Affinity Diagram & Map Re-structure  /.

I organized a workshop with stakeholders from Engineering, Marketing, Customer Service, and the Product Owner. Each participant was given a stack of post-its to jot down their thoughts and questions about the app, based on their experiences and the shared data. We grouped similar ideas and questions into chunks, categorizing them by functionality and purpose. This half-day workshop yielded valuable insights and a well-structured map.

Wireframe  /.

Post-workshop, we had a clearer understanding of the app structure, enabling us to identify essential and non-essential elements. I began illustrating wireframes for each key page and expanded upon these designs. Transparency and clarity were paramount, and I encouraged the team to share any innovative design ideas for discussion.

1st Usability Test & GUI Planning /

I typically conduct usability tests twice: before and after visual implementation. This approach recognizes that user feedback can vary between architectural and visualized versions. Initially, the focus is on the user's operational flow; post-visual implementation, the emphasis shifts to assessing whether the chosen color scheme effectively guides the user.

Visual Impletstion /

In response to user suggestions, our marketing team is planning to update the brand color of CoolWallet S, shifting from dark black to dark blue, and adjusting the yellow to higher saturation and brightness. The remaining colors will stay clean and simple. Previously, there was no comprehensive documentation or guideline for developers. For the new version, I have designed a complete guideline to facilitate smoother and more transparent collaboration, ensuring everyone stays aligned with updates and revisions.
